this is me

... this week:

It's been busy. Mom had her birthday here in Chicago We had a fun birthday weekend in the city. We saw the movie Terri. Total recommend: About a high school misfit and his just as odd principal. We also saw Cowboys and Aliens. Mom likes a good action flick. Aliens? Cowboys? AND a Wonderwoman bracelet worn by Daniel Craig? Right up her alley. (Mine too if I'm honest -- it was FUN.)

Here's Mom's birthday "cake." Yes that's a tart cherry pie (in case you were guessing and were right).

Upshot is this: every bit of my time is spent. Because other than doing these things, I am typing, typing, typing. And I wish I could write something longer, but can't find the time to do it. I like you guys!

Yes, the book has to get into the editor soon. The changes are not bad at all -- they just take time.

What's going on with you?

movie rec: secret of kells

Did you see the Triplets of Bellville? Man -- what a movie. This is from that team. I love their animation style (retro picture book to my eye).

It is a fun movie, and it's quite unpredictable too!

As a kids book author, I found this story is refreshing in light of all this "death of publishing" talk. In this world NOTHING is more important than books. Yay!

In addition, it gave me ideas for what I'd like to see on the ipad. (I kid you not.)

Great time.

artist date: matinee

I'm working through Julia Cameron's books again, doing morning pages, and doing artist dates. (I've been pushing through a book recently and I've worn myself out. Need some revitalization. Thank you Julia Cameron!)

First artist date? What's more fun that going to a movie in the afternoon? And getting a nice 50 minute walk to the movie theatre. Yes.

As for the movie North Face (link to trailer on Youtube) -- I recommend it if you like intense and a european style story. (Like Lindt bitter chocolate? This might be for you. It's a kind of 80% cocoa sort of story.) Also it's worth it simply to wonder at the mountaineering equipment -- sleeping in canvas bags on the side of the mountain, plain wool mittens, and hand-made (blacksmith-ed) steel spikes to hammer into the mountains. Tough, tough guys (sustained on lots of bowls of "barley soup").

Absolutely delicious fun in the afternoon!

Ukulele Orchestra does Ennio Morricone . . .

Yes!

I admit, I've been loving Sergio Leone movies these past few years.  It's been part of my research for my next book. (How fun is that?)  If you haven't tried these movies, I recommend the Clint Eastwood ones (particularly "Fistful of Dollars"), "Once Upon A Time in the West," and "Duck, You Sucker."

Below, listen to the Uke Orchestra do part of the soundtrack from "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly."

(Thanks to Chris Langill for pointing out these crazy uke players.)
