chicago walk that ends with eating

Hi all!

On Thursday, Phil took me on a walk that I want to recommend to all of you visiting Chicago. You can walk nearly as long as you want on this one -- just depends on where you start on the Lakefront Path. (For out of towners, Lake Front Path is the path that is, as it says, a path along Lake Michigan.

fishing kayakerHere's the walk: Get to the Lakefront Path. (If you're from out of town, the path is hard to miss. See where the buildings seem to end on the horizon? That's the lake. You'll see the path if you get close enough to the lake -- and you'll see all the walkers and bikers.)

Walk North. When the path ends (you'll see a pink high rise building across Lake Shore Drive at that point) you get follow the sidewalk on Sheridan Drive for about four blocks, until you get here: Waterfront Cafe (6219 Sheridan Drive).

You've got to walk off the sidewalk, toward the lake to find it, but it's back there. And great food too -- green ice tea, fish and chips, Jamicain Jerk chicken wrap with fresh greens... yum!

The best walks end with eating!

Get back home (or to hotel) by walking back. Or take the Granville El Stop (Red Line on CTA 'El' train.)

We Chicagoans are so, so lucky to live in a city where the lakefront was saved for everybody and is not the property of a big-mansioned few. I think this every time I'm on the Lakefront Path.

segway tour: like seeing those wobbly rollers, even if I don't want to pay for the tour And if you're on the path you're likely to see all sorts of great things: people biking with dogs, a golf course, 20 or so body builders lifting weights under palm trees, a pedal car and more, more, more.

Have I mentioned how much I love Chicago? I'll you've got to do is walk out your door and there's ... look!... a flying trapeze school.

Other news? Made Dilly Beans, which are basically pickled green beans. The canning cookbook put an exclamation mark after their name in the index (as well as after their title above the recipe). And this writer isn't an exclamation mark kind of gal. What I know is that Dilly Beans are all the rage in the south. Being from Wisconsin, I don't know that I've ever had a dilly bean. But I tell you, if there's an exclamation mark in the index, I've got to try it.

Hope some of you try the walk. Or go to this find of a little sandwich shop!
