Sunday: Chickens?
March 8, 2009 Why whenever I read "in the shelter of His wings" do I think 'chicken'? Chicken? As in 'cluck-cluck?'
You guys are so smart -- I know. But I had to do a search for the word 'chicken' in the Bible. And guess what? 'Chicken' is never mentioned.
I discovered this while working on a presentation for my church's women's conference about the Psalms. In particular about the words 'rock,' 'shelter,' 'refuge,' 'dwell' and 'abide' and I wanted a video of a chicken giving shelter to her chicks. I need a chicken, I thought. Yeah, a chicken! In particular, I wanted a video of chicks taking shelter under a Mama Chicken's wings (okay, yeah, a 'hen). Couldn't find one.
But I did find this video... And though it isn't something I can use, I thought it might be an illustration of 'abiding' with God. I like how attentive the chicks are to the hen. What do you think?
Posted later: Okay, I think I understand why. See Matthew 23:37.

Chickens are not mentioned in the OT because they didn't arrive in the Middle East (from India) until the inter-testamental era. Jesus did mention chickens.
