Editor's advice? Tell. Don't show.

Starlings

I've been thinking a lot about this too. Probably because I do tell in my books, and I've been known to have a bout of anxiety -- say right before I'm about to turn something in -- thinking of that old chestnut: "Show don't tell."

Jonathan Karp isn't suggesting that we avoid showing forever and ever. He's saying that telling is a tool we need to use too. Amen to that.

One of my favorite quotes? "The writers I grew up loving were great talkers."

Check out all the clips -- they're wonderful. Thanks Poet's and Writers!
